What should I do if a tooth is knocked out?

  • Gently rinse the tooth in water. Handle the tooth by the crown of the tooth, not the root.

  • If possible, gently place the clean tooth in the socket to keep it moist. It is important not to let the tooth dry out.

  • If it is not possible to place the tooth back in the mouth, wrap the tooth in a clean cloth and immerse in milk or water.
