Pediatric Dentistry
We love our pediatric patients! From the moment they walk in the door, we strive to make them feel welcome and excited to be here. Our waiting room is warm and inviting with a cozy kids corner to relax while they wait. Each operatory is equipped with a ceiling mounted television for patients to enjoy during their appointment. We find that this is a welcome distraction for most children. We also offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for patients that may need a little more help relaxing which is a safe and effective antianxiety option.
Our office recommends bringing your child in for their first dental visit between ages 1 and 2. Early dental visits teach both children and parents about proper oral hygiene helping to establish long-lasting, healthy habits.
Children have fewer teeth (20 baby teeth) than they will have as adults. Tooth growth begins at the front teeth and continues toward the molars at the back of the mouth. The first permanent molars erupt behind the baby molars around age 6. The second adult molars typically erupt around age 12. Lastly, wisdom teeth (third molars) usually erupt into the mouth around age 18.
Our dentists enjoy monitoring your child’s teeth and will ensure that permanent teeth are growing in as expected. If necessary, we may recommend an orthodontist who evaluates crowded or gapped teeth or misaligned bites.
